It’s not Whoville, but it’s a lot closer and a lot easier to find. We have a new site for our third annual Grinch For Good Christmas event. It will be held Saturday, December 7th from 1-3 p.m. at New Carlisle Elementary School, 1203 Kennison Avenue in New Carlisle. The starting time was set so that folks can come right after the annual New Carlisle Christmas Parade ends.
The event provides a place where kids, who might otherwise struggle to afford it, can come and shop for free Christmas gifts for their immediate family. We will again be partnering with our friends at Charitable Recycling to provide the gifts that will be available at our Grinch store. Another partner for the event, New Carlisle Federal Bank, will be providing volunteer gift wrappers at the event. We will be providing plenty of other giveaways, like coats, gloves, hats, etc. and will hold a raffle for bikes. There will also be plenty of holiday games and crafts to entertain the kids. And, of course, there will be an appearance by a certain infamous Christmastime villain.
“It started as an outreach for the teens we were mentoring in our DEFY program at Tecumseh (High School),” said Julie Driskill, Director of FYI’s Mentoring Program. “It’s just a way for them to give back. The concept was that the Christmas spirit reformed the Grinch and his heart grew bigger and he gave back. That’s really what this event is all about.”
There will be a small charge of $2 per adult and $1 for child admission to cover the cost of the event. We will waive the entry fee if you bring in a toy to share with a needy child as part of this day's Stuff The Bus initiative for our upcoming Hope For The Holidays program later in the month. No advanced registration for the Grinch event is required.
If you are interested in helping by donating gifts for the kids or volunteering to guide the participating children through our Grinch Christmas shop, call Julie Driskill at 937-845-0403.
